Gluten Free

A gluten free diet is a diet which completely excludes cereals which contain gluten such as wheat, spelt, barley and rye as well as those products which have gluten as a food additive. Gluten, as a food additive, can be found in many products that you have never thought about! It can be found in soups, yoghurts, salad dressings, sweets, burgers and hot dogs.

People suffering from celiac disease need to go on a gluten free diet to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Those suffering from wheat allergy also tend to completely exclude gluten from their diet.

Symptoms of celiac disease may vary from person to person. However the most common symptoms include:

  • Abdominal bloating and pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Malnutrition - leading to anemia, miscarriage and osteoporosis

If you think that you are suffering from celiac disease, please consult your doctor before going on a gluten free diet. This is because the symptoms you are feeling might not necessarily mean that you are celiac. Blood tests and an intestinal biopsy are needed to verify presence of celiac disease.

Cross contamination is a big issue in this regard. Only those products which are certified as gluten free should be consumed by celiacs and those following a strict gluten free diet. Cross contamination can happen during distribution and processing. This is the problem with oats, which although considered free from gluten are many times contaminated at source by other grains.

Green Trade provides a variety of gluten free products which can also be consumed by all those looking for good and tasty healthy products.
